Sanur Port will begin operating in stages on November 11, 2022. The new port, located on the east side of Sanur Beach, is being prepared as a connectivity point for the Golden Triangle area—Sanur, Nusa Penida, and Nusa Ceningan—which will become the new economic center on the island of Bali. Sanur Harbor is one of the inter-island crossing ports in southern Bali. Most visitors come to Sanur Harbor to vacation on Nusa Penida Island, but some are local people who want to worship on the same island.
General Information of Sanur Port
it is Located between Matahari Beach and Bangsal Beach; Sanur port also accommodates crossings to several other islands, such as Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Ceningan, and even to Gili Trawangan, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). Seeing the vital role of Sanur Port as a sea gateway for various tourism and traditional economic interests, the government, in this case, the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub), has been developing Sanur Port infrastructure since 2020.
Sanur Port has a floating dock covering an area of 2,120 m2. With these dimensions, the pier can accommodate 26 tourist boats with a maximum weight of 116 GT. Construction of other port facilities includes talus (revetment), a south side breakwater 479.85 m long, a north side breakwater 121.22 m long, a trestle, a floating bridge, and dredging.
On the land side, facilities on an area of 7,403 m2 are being constructed, including a 1,500 m2 passenger terminal, a port maintenance facility workshop, green open space, waste storage facilities, port roads, and fences, a place of worship (Padmasana), and a parking lot.
Local Feel at Sanur Port
The Sanur port passenger terminal displays architecture with a solid Balinese cultural feel. The shape of the passenger terminal building resembles a traditional boat with fish head and tail ornaments. The combination of Balinese architecture with modern interior design can be seen in the passenger terminal building, dominated by golden colors, creating an elegant and homely impression.
In his press statement, Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi said the design of the passenger terminal building resulted from collaboration with local Balinese architects. The Minister of Transportation also emphasized that every transportation infrastructure development must be able to be felt by the community directly.
“The building displays robust and interesting Balinese architecture and cultural nuances. “This port will be a connectivity point for several islands and add to tourist attractions,” said the Minister of Transportation. Before officially operating, the Sanur Port floating dock also underwent ship berthing trials on September 22, 2022. The trial took place using the KM El Rey De Reyes ship, which was carrying 45 foreign tourist passengers to Nusa Penida.
ECONOMIC GROWTH
Apart from encouraging Bali’s tourism sector, the construction of Sanur Port has a strategic role as a connectivity node for the Bali Golden Triangle area, namely Sanur, Nusa Penida, and Nusa Ceningan. Construction is also being carried out at Sampalan Port, Nusa Penida, and Bias Munjul Port, Nusa Ceningan, to create this connectivity node. Thus, the presence of the three ports can become a new economic center in Bali, which will have a positive impact on the economy of the Balinese people.
Apart from building infrastructure, the Ministry of Transportation also pays attention to the quality of ferry vessels at South Bali ports. The Ministry of Transportation will implement a buy-the-service scheme to improve the quality of ferry facilities. Through this scheme, ferry boat operators can get subsidies. On the other hand, providing subsidies through the buy-the-service scheme will encourage the community to operate ships that are safe and appropriate for supporting tourism.
